PRP Gel: A Natural Filler

Some patients with under-eye hollows and fine lines prefer a gentler approach. PRP gel is prepared from your own blood plasma and placed beneath the skin as an off-label, subtle volumizer.

Prepared from your own plasma

We draw a small sample of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate platelet-rich plasma. A gentle heating step then thickens the plasma into a soft gel, sometimes called a bio-filler.

Because the gel is made from your own plasma, some patients prefer it to manufactured fillers, although the preparation uses a collection kit and an anticoagulant. It is sometimes considered for delicate areas such as the tear troughs, where thin skin needs a light touch. Use of PRP gel as a filler is off-label, and it carries risks that we review with you.

Platelets contain growth factors, but how much this matters for skin appearance is not well established. PRP gel tends to be subtler and shorter-lived than hyaluronic acid filler, so it suits patients who want a soft refresh rather than dramatic change.

  1. 1Blood draw. A small sample is taken, similar to a routine lab test.

  3. 3Placement. After numbing, the gel is placed beneath the skin in small amounts. Swelling usually settles within several days.

PRP gel questions

Regular fillers are manufactured products. PRP gel is prepared from your own plasma, though the process involves a collection kit and an anticoagulant.

The gel is gradually absorbed. Many patients see benefit for several months, and results vary from person to person.

Injections near the eyes carry risks, including bruising, lumps, irregularity and, rarely, serious vascular complications. We evaluate your anatomy first and treat only when it is a good fit, and we review these risks before any treatment.

Often yes. It is sometimes paired with microneedling or other skin treatments, and we plan the order together.
