Fading ink with picosecond energy
The PicoSure laser sends extremely brief pulses into the skin that break tattoo ink into tiny fragments. Your immune system then clears the particles over the following weeks.
Treatment can cause discomfort, blistering, pigment changes or scarring, and no laser eliminates these risks. We discuss them with you and plan conservatively.
Results depend on the age, size, depth and colors of the tattoo, as well as your skin type. Black and dark blue inks generally respond best, while some greens, yellows and fluorescent colors may need more time.

What to expect
- 1Evaluation. We look at your tattoo, skin type and goals, and explain a realistic number of visits.
- 2Treatment. Eye protection is worn and the laser is passed over the tattoo. Many patients compare it to a rubber band snapping.
- 3Healing between visits. Apply ointment as directed, protect the area from sun and allow time for ink to clear before the next session.

The number varies a lot with ink, depth and your body’s response. We give an estimated range after examining your tattoo.
Will the tattoo disappear completely?
Many tattoos fade significantly, but complete removal cannot be guaranteed. Some colors or heavy ink may leave a faint shadow.
Does tattoo removal hurt?
Most patients feel snapping and heat. Numbing options are available to improve comfort.
Can I remove a tattoo if I have darker skin?
Picosecond lasers can be used on many skin tones, but settings must be conservative. We assess your skin before starting.
